The series of marks on the left-hand side of the work are created as a by-product of other drawings - a build up of inky residue on the nib of the pen is wiped off here to avoid ink blots occurring on works like 'You Breathe In You Breathe Out'. The marks on the right hand side are then copied from these. The grid paper helps me locate and recreate the haphazard marks in a work that aims to bridge the gap between spontaneity and plan.
