Close juxtaposition of discrete works help to form new ways of seeing. Here, the cast acrylic painting technique is placed in close proximity to a photograph taken using a mobile phone. The close union of the two objects is cemented by the title: 'What a Lark! What a Plunge!' taken from Virginia Woolf's novel Mrs Dalloway (1922). The title can also be seen as a reference to the Greek myth of Icarus, which has come to represent hubris or failed ambition.
